What Note-Taking Systems Taught Me About Online Business
Why I moved my newsletter to Substack to simplify publishing
Hey friend, Tony here.
I have a confession to make. I fell into the same trap with my business as I did with digital note-taking. Building, modifying and maintaining my systems prevented me from publishing just like it did with Obsidian.
I put countless hours and painstaking attention into my website, private community, courses, Obsidian vaults, marketing and not to mention all the moving parts behind the scenes.
Sure it’s a lot of work now, but it’s just the initial setup part. Once I’m done, I can finally just focus on publishing on YouTube and everything will run smoothly.
At least that’s what I told myself.
It’s been well over a year and I finally faced the reality the more I worked on my business, the less videos I published. I even hired a virtual assistant who’s been instrumental in helping me have more time to serve my community members.
But here we are in March and I still have not published any new videos on YouTube this year.
So after much consideration, I decided it was time for me to do what I teach and simplify my publishing system.
That’s why I moved my newsletter over to Substack.
This will be my new home for publishing content alongside YouTube. It has been something I’ve been wanting to do for a while but kept wrestling with the notion that I would be abandoning the ownership I have over the content on my website and all the email marketing features that come with it.
But this is a tradeoff I am willing to make. The truth is, managing all the advanced email marketing automations and having to write sales emails was just not enjoyable for me. Substack allows me to focus on organic growth by doing what I love doing: writing and publishing content.
Anyway, thats enough about me. Let’s talk about how this benefits you and what you can expect moving forward.
No more than once per week, you will get higher quality publications from me containing deep dives on analog note-taking systems, learning, writing, and creativity for divergent thinkers.
More engagement from myself and other readers in the comments section.
Opportunities for you to network with like-minded writers and creators on the platform.
The option to support my work for $6 per month and get access to exclusive content in the future (not unlike Patreon).
Overall, I’m already feeling a great sense of relief by simplifying my publishing and providing higher quality content for you all here on Substack. I hope you will decide to stick around for a new chapter in our journey together.
I look forward to sharing more with you in the coming weeks and hope to hear from you in the comments section.
Stay curious, my friend.
